Ingredients
Scale
- For the Meatloaf:
- 1 1/2 lbs ground chicken
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 6 slices deli ham
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- For the Sauce:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.
- Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture:
- In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Assemble the Meatloaf:
- On a sheet of parchment paper, flatten the meat mixture into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
- Lay the ham slices evenly across the meat, followed by the Swiss cheese slices.
- Carefully roll the meatloaf into a log, using the parchment paper to help guide you. Seal the edges to prevent cheese from leaking out.
- Bake the Meatloaf:
- Place the rolled meatloaf on the prepared baking sheet or in the loaf pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Make the Sauce:
- While the meatloaf is baking, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until thickened. Add the shredded Swiss cheese and stir until melted. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Serve:
- Let the meatloaf rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Drizzle the creamy sauce over each slice and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a layer of Dijon mustard or spinach leaves along with the ham and cheese.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat slices in the oven or microwave.
- Swap Swiss cheese with Gruyère or mozzarella for a different taste.
